I have been an artist in some form for the better part of my life. But then again, haven't we all?
I started making art after my grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was 7. That is the spark that I have been carrying throughout my career as an artist.
I continued making art with fiber, thread, yarn, and whatever I could find to create with until I entered high school. That marked the first medium change in my arts that I can recall. This new medium was music. I was well accomplished, playing 4 instruments by the time I graduated high school. While I was playing music though, my visual art took a back burner.
I continued to make art with fiber, but was not able to as much as I would have liked. When I decided to return home from Western Kentucky University, my art had changed a second time. This time it was to web design, creating interactive graphic sites.
As I began school at Indiana University Southeast, I was drawn first to graphic design, then printmaking as concentrations. After taking a ceramics class (my first ever I might add) I was instantly hooked. I spent many nights looking at glaze formulas on the internet and looking for things to try. My biggest accomplishment thus far in my undergraduate career has been my success with crystal glazes. It gives me a stepping stone to add a more unique quality to something that might otherwise not be visually appealing.
